Safety Collaboration: The Crucial Partnership Between Employees and Management
Introduction
The importance of safety in the workplace cannot be overstated. Organizations that prioritize safety not only protect their workers but also reap the benefits of improved productivity, reduced costs, and enhanced reputation. At E Light, the leadership and management are committed to providing a safe work environment, recognizing that their employees are their greatest assets. However, achieving a truly safe workplace requires a collaborative effort between management and employees.
Management Commitment to Safety
As per OSHA regulations, employers are responsible for maintaining a work environment that is free from known hazards. E Light's approach to safety goes beyond mere compliance, as they are dedicated to being the best in their industry. The company has invested in a robust safety infrastructure, including a full-time safety staff that conducts inspections, provides training, and works to identify and eliminate hazards. We have developed and administer three apprenticeship training programs which devote a significant amount of time to safety, and we provide these programs at no cost to the employee. We also provide training and certifications in safety which enhance our employees’ careers and improve their knowledge and skill in safety at not cost to the employee. We provide resources and pay for support for platforms which allow the employees to contribute directly to improving safety by offering ideas and suggestions and staying informed about near misses, accidents and incidents. We offer monthly training on critical subjects which affect safety so that our employees understand that hazards they face and are aware of what can be done to minimize them. We also evaluate every near miss, incident and accident so that we can learn from it and find ways to prevent it in the future. All of these things require time, effort and finances to provide and we are committed to continue providing these things for our employees.
Being the best at what we do is not possible if management is the only ones supporting the effort. In fact, if management was the only one that was involved in trying to the be the best electrical contractor, the result would be utter failure. To be the best, we need you. You are already incredible at doing your jobs and getting the job done with great efficiency and quality. We are so proud when we go to the projects and see the incredible work YOU have accomplished. We need that same commitment and dedication to safety in order to be the best. We need you to know the procedures and follow them and to understand there is a reason for them and they are there for your safety. If you see them no being followed, say something and ask that they are followed for your sake and theirs. If you have ideas about how it could be done better, find a safety committee member and have a talk with them and make suggestions. Or post on the discord server. We have already evaluated and implemented several ideas from Continuous Improvement server. We need you to get involved, make suggestions, offer ideas, help keep your crew members safe, teach others and learn from others. We need you to make the same level of commitment to successfully completing training that is provided as management has made providing it. We need you to take the same pride in being the best at being safe as you do at being the best in constructing buildings and running power lines and providing renewable sources of power.
